How to Use the Football Tactical Board
The Tactical Board is a free tool to create, animate and organise football exercises on an interactive pitch. Runs in any browser, no install required, on any device.
Create and Organise Exercises
In the Exercises tab, create exercises with name, category and level. Each exercise supports multiple frames to animate player positions and ball movements across a tactical sequence. The sidebar includes filters by name, category and level.
Drawing on the Pitch
Toolbar to place Players (numbered solid circle), Opponents (dashed circle), Ball, Cones and base discs, Portable Goals, Movement arrows (solid or dashed, with start/end decorations) and Free text. All elements have customisable colours.
Animating Tactical Sequences
Add frames for a step-by-step animation with smooth position interpolation. Export as MP4 or WebM video.
Half-Field Mode
Switch between Full Field and Half Field with one click. Mode is saved per exercise.
Notebook and PDF
The Notebook tab shows exercises in a grid with pitch previews. Filter and export as a professional PDF with image, name, category, level and description for each exercise.
Sync Data Between Tools
Each tool stores its data on your device. If you created or changed data (team name and badge) in another SportsLabTools football tool, press Sync data, next to Export, to bring it in here — no need to export and import files. New items are added, changed items take the most recent version and items you deleted in another tool are removed. Data that belongs only to this tool is not affected.
Exercise Types for the Football Tactical Board
- Offensive Organisation — Positional attack, combinations, possession progression, build-up patterns
- Defensive Organisation — Defensive block, high press, compactness, cover and balance
- Transitions — Offensive (recovery → fast attack) and defensive (loss → immediate press)
- Set Pieces — Offensive and defensive corners, free-kicks, throw-ins
- Technical-Tactical — Rondos, possession under pressure, finishing with tactical structure
- Warm-up — Cone circuits, small-sided games
Tips for Football Coaches
- Use frame animation to explain sequential movements — clearer than static arrows in a single image.
- Create one category per game moment for a well-structured notebook.
- Use Half-Field for pressing or build-up exercises — the goal and penalty area are prominently visible.
- Combine solid arrows (with ball) and dashed arrows (without ball) to show each player's role.
- Export the PDF notebook before each session to share with coaching staff.
💡 Complete tactical analysis. Pair the Tactical Board with the Action Stats Tracker → to log actions in real time during matches.
