How to Use the Futsal Training Planner
The Futsal Training Planner is a free training management and periodisation tool. No installation required — it runs directly in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer, and all data is saved locally on the device.
Initial Setup: Team and Players
Start by going to Settings to define the team name, logo and season. Then head to Players to add all members — athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, fitness trainers and the rest of the technical staff — with name, shirt number and category. This data is shared across the whole tool and included in JSON exports.
Competitive Calendar: Competitions, Opponents and Games
In Competitions create the leagues and tournaments for the season. In Opponents register opposing clubs with name and logo. In Games schedule all matches with opponent, date, time, venue, game type (home/away) and matchday number. Squad call-ups for each game are managed directly here, letting you record which athletes are selected.
Exercise Library
In Exercises build and manage the team's full exercise catalogue. For each exercise set the name, description, intensity level and associated tags. Library exercises are reusable in any training session, ensuring consistency in planning and making it easier to analyse content later by type.
Training Session Management
In Trainings log each session with date, venue, intensity level and tags. For each training, define exercise blocks with sets, reps and duration unit (hours, minutes or seconds). Also record attendance for every athlete — present, absent or no record — data that feeds directly into the analysis reports.
Planning with Microcycles, Mesocycles and Macrocycles
The tool supports all three levels of sports periodisation:
- Microcycle — up to 7 days (typically one training week). Ideal for planning weekly content with thematic tags.
- Mesocycle — up to 90 days. Groups multiple microcycles into a preparation phase with specific objectives.
- Macrocycle — up to 365 days, covering the full season or a major competitive phase. The macrocycle calendar shows a monthly view of all training sessions and games, including the opponent logo on each match card.
Each cycle can have tags attached, allowing you to categorise season phases (pre-season, competition phase, recovery, etc.). Cycles can be exported as PDF for sharing with the coaching staff.
Analysis and Reports
The Analysis tab generates automatic reports from recorded data. Filter by date range, tags and athletes to focus the report. Reports include:
- General Summary — total training sessions, games, duration, most used tag, top attending athlete and most used exercise.
- Tag Usage — number of training sessions, exercises and total duration per tag.
- Attendance — attendance table per athlete with presence percentage and games called up.
- Level Distribution — training session breakdown by intensity level.
- Top Exercises — most used exercises with usage count and total duration.
- Cycle Tags — tag usage across microcycles, mesocycles and macrocycles.
All reports can be exported as PDF with one click, with the team logo and identity.
Export and Import Data
Use the Export function to save all data as a JSON file. This file can be imported on another device or shared with other coaches. The format is fully compatible with all other SportsLabTools futsal tools with no data loss. Exporting never deletes previously loaded data — it only adds or updates fields.
Sync Data Between Tools
Each tool stores its data on your device. If you created or changed data (players, opponents, competitions, games, call-ups and venues) in another SportsLabTools futsal tool, press Sync data, next to Export, to bring it in here — no need to export and import files. New items are added, changed items take the most recent version and items you deleted in another tool are removed. Data that belongs only to this tool is not affected.
Futsal Training Periodisation
Periodisation is one of the pillars of high-performance sports training. Structuring the training load across microcycles, mesocycles and macrocycles allows coaches to:
- Control load progression throughout the season using intensity tags.
- Plan performance peaks for the most important competitive phases.
- Identify content patterns — how many strength, speed, tactical or technical sessions were held in each phase.
- Monitor individual athlete attendance and anticipate performance drops from consecutive absences.
- Cross-reference the games calendar with training sessions to manage load in weeks with multiple matches.
Tips for Coaches
- Create tags with clear names like "Strength", "Speed", "Defensive Tactics" or "Set Pieces" — they make content-based filtering in reports much more useful.
- Always assign an intensity level to each session — the level distribution report shows whether the load is balanced across the mesocycle.
- Log attendance for every training session so attendance reports are accurate — the percentage is calculated only between present and absent, excluding sessions without records.
- Use the macrocycle for a panoramic view of the season — the monthly calendar with training sessions and games is ideal for presentations to the board or the squad.
- Export the macrocycle PDF before each competitive phase so the whole coaching staff is on the same page.
- Keep the exercise library up to date — the more exercises you log, the more valuable the top exercises report becomes at the end of the season.
Planning Double Match Weeks and Managing Court Time
In futsal it's common for the season to include double match weeks (for example, Wednesday and Saturday), which forces you to compress the standard microcycle: instead of one long higher-volume block, most teams split the load into two short recovery/activation sessions between matches. Use tags like "Double Week" to flag these microcycles in the analysis and confirm that total load isn't building up without the recovery windows it needs. Also log the venue for each session — sharing court time with other teams is a common futsal constraint that outdoor 11-a-side football rarely faces, so it's worth confirming availability ahead of time when planning the week.
💡 Complement with the Athlete Journal. The Futsal Athlete Journal → lets each player track their personal performance game by game — actions, field zones and individual statistics. The athlete ID is compatible with the Planner, making it easy to cross-reference data between coach and player.
